When moving to a new city, it’s good to know where you can find all the essentials. Luckily, The Lanes has it all! With shops, pubs, cafés and live music venues, everything you could ever need is in one easy-to-find place in the centre of Brighton. With clothes shops and barbers, estate agents and art galleries, this one-stop-shop…ping area is the perfect place to find a gift or treat yourself. Don’t forget to check for student discounts too.
Brighton & Hove Pride
Home to one of the largest LGBT scenes in the UK, the city of Brighton’s Pride event is a staple summer occasion for Brighton natives and draws thousands to the city every August. The parade festivities are a time to celebrate diversity, educate others and have fun with flatmates. It’s the perfect excuse to don your most colourful outfit and have a boogie to some classic pop tunes performed live by a variety of international superstars. Previous acts have included Pet Shop Boys, Boy George and Britney Spears!
Brighton Festival
If you’re looking for a break from upcoming deadlines or maybe even inspiration for a final project, Brighton Festival is the only place you’ll want to be this May. The festival is a showcase of the incredible art created by Brighton locals, including theatrical and dance performances, art installations and live music. There are even job opportunities and volunteering positions every year – something to explore if you’re looking for work experience in the creative industry.
Brighton Beach and Seafront
Looking for the perfect Instagrammable spot in Brighton? We think we’ve found it! While taking a leisurely evening stroll or eating fish and chips for dinner for the third time that week (it’s okay, we’ve all been there), don’t forget to snap a pic of the sun setting over the sea at Brighton Beach. For bonus points, see if you can catch the sunset behind Brighton Pier or over Brighton Beach Grandstand – two beautiful seafront attractions that are also completely free to visit!
Duke of York’s Picturehouse
The Duke of York’s Picturehouse is one of the oldest cinemas in the world at over 100 years old! A full roster of modern indie flicks and old-school classics are sure to satisfy a range of tastes. There’s a full food and drink menu and discounted student rates are on offer throughout the week. One visit and we’re sure no other film experience will compare. The Picturehouse was also once known to host an illegal punk rock concert! If only walls could talk…
The Upside Down House
Yep, you read that right! Brighton is home to the Upside Down House, where everything is quite literally upside down. An easy-to-spot attraction in the centre of Brighton, it’s only £5 to enter this ‘museum of illusion’ and you can leave with enough Instagram content for a year. A picture of you defying gravity and walking on the ceiling is sure to get you an extra like or two.
Market Diner Brighton

With a wide selection of international cuisines and a range of one-of-a-kind spots to try, there’s something for everyone. One must-see is Market Diner Brighton, which is open literally all day, every day!
