Bradford is one of the largest cities in the UK, and one that welcomes students with open arms. With its multicultural influences, energetic spirit and historic venues, it’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in student life!
Sanctuary Students has some of the best student accommodation in Bradford. Large en-suite rooms, private entrance, social spaces, and a great location in the centre of the action. You name it, it’s here!
With a lively and inclusive multicultural centre, and the fastest-growing population outside London, Bradford is a brilliant option for students. Last year it was named ‘Most Improved City’, and it’s currently bidding to become the UK City of Culture 2025 (and there’s also the small matter of being crowned Britain’s ‘Capital of Curry’ six years running…).
This enterprising West Yorkshire city has grown from a small market town to a boomtown of the industrial revolution, and the ‘wool capital’ of the world. It offers cheap accommodation, amazing shopping and a buzzing nightlife. Read on to find out more about why Bradford is a great home away from home for uni students from across the UK – and beyond!
Bradford is also a very walkable city with lots of transport options, but our Bradford student flats are a short walk from everywhere.
Public transport in Bradford is pretty good. There are the usual range of buses and trains with Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) a few miles outside of the city.
Bradford Interchange and Bradford Forster Square are the two main train stations. Each handles different routes, both regionally and nationally. You can get to most places in Yorkshire and further afield by train and fares can be reasonable if you book in advance.
Bradford Interchange is also the bus station for the city. It handles local services around the city and across Yorkshire. You’ll want the MCard if you use the bus a lot as it’s the local version of a student discount card.
Roads are okay. The ring road helps you navigate around the outer city and smaller roads take you anywhere else.
We wouldn’t recommend driving to the University of Bradford though as parking can be a challenge, but getting here is fine.
Bradford is home to the University of Bradford and Bradford College, which is one of the biggest education providers in the region, providing everything from A Levels to Masters.
The college has been centred around teaching for 185 years, while the main university celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016, and features in the UK Top 10 for a number of courses, including Forensic Science, Occupational Therapy, Optometry and Physiotherapy (Complete University Guide 2021).
The university is in the city centre, making it convenient for students and staff. It has several faculties covering hundreds of subjects. Faculties include Engineering & Informatics, Computing, Informatics and Media, Engineering, Design and Technology, Health Studies, Life Sciences, Management, Law, and Social Sciences and Social and International Studies.
Both of these institutions are a stone’s throw from Wardley House – our student accommodation in Bradford.
There are around 7,500 undergraduates and 2,300 postgraduates at the University of Bradford, with around 25% being from overseas. It’s a large university but not the largest, a good balance between a large student population that isn’t so large as to be overwhelming.
Bradford College is home to around 20,000 students, although not all of these are studying degrees, as the college also offers A Levels, vocational qualifications, community courses and apprenticeships.
At our Bradford student halls, we house 290 students.
As one of the larger cities in the UK, Bradford does experience crime, but the levels are no higher than other major cities across the country. Small measures, such as avoiding walking home alone at night or choosing adequate locks for your bike, can greatly reduce the risk of vulnerability.
Popular student areas include the city centre, Great Horton and Frizinghall – but, if you want to be in the heart of the action, city centre student accommodation is the clear front-runner!
Our affordable student housing is situated in the heart of the city, minutes away from the University of Bradford and Bradford College.
