Celebrating our Sanctuary Students Heroes!

Pham was our Q2 Hero and went on to be crowned the Hero of the Year 2019 for his amazing efforts in helping a student locate a lost family heirloom.
During a summer checkout at Alliance House, a resident cleared her room and threw a lot of rubbish away. She later discovered that her late grandmother’s ring was missing and realised that she must have thrown it away – she was understandably completely heartbroken due to the loss of such an irreplaceable gift.
We had a skip on-site due to checkout and no one had any idea where her rubbish was. Pham took it upon himself to climb into the skip and look through many bags of rubbish to try and find the ring. Staying two hours after his shift had ended, he found the ring and we contacted the resident who was speechless and in tears. She was extremely thankful and grateful to Pham for going to such lengths to care for the students.
We’re sure you will agree that Pham’s selfless efforts and his dedication to his job make him a true hero!
Q1 Hero – Victoria Hendry, Assistant Manager at Murano Street Student Village, Glasgow – praised for being calm, caring and efficient and, above all, dedicated to ensuring our residents’ well-being.
Q3 Hero – Tach Hall, Deputy Accommodation Manager at Stratford-upon-Avon – commended for being proactive, positive and hands-on – an invaluable member of the Sanctuary Students family.
Q4 Hero – Joanne Redhead, Accommodation Manager at Grenville Street, Liverpool – coming in to help with an incident despite being on annual leave. She remained calm and professional at all times and did everything to ensure the resident’s safety and peace of mind.
Q1 Heroes – Lynne Purvis and Angela Earl, Assistant Accommodation Managers in Dundee. Lynne and Angela both received three nominations each, thanks to their amazing response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Both stepped up and said that they were willing to do whatever was needed to allow those with underlying health conditions to work from home. They worked longer shifts to ensure the students who were still on-site had cover. They even got stuck in with helping the cleaners and caretakers, and raised the spirits of their colleagues with their great sense of humour.
Q2 Hero – Gill Thompson, Receptionist, Marybone Student Village. Since Gill started in her role, she has built great relationships with students and their families. This was shown when she remained calm and comforting to colleagues and residents during a particularly difficult time.
Q4 Hero – Anne-Marie Duffy, Deputy Accommodation Manager in Dundee – Anne-Marie did a phenomenal job working through the first Covid-19 lockdown. She then discovered she had her own mountain to climb: receiving a diagnosis for a life-threating condition. She received weekly treatment for many months without complaint – which showcases her amazing outlook and positive approach to the situation. We really do admire her for her braveness and keeping her sense of humour throughout the situation. Her leadership never dwindled, and she very much carried on with a ‘business as usual’ approach. Anne-Marie is a true hero and a shining beacon of hope and courage for us all to reflect on.
Congratulations to all of our 2019 and 2020 Heroes! Stay tuned for our 2021 Heroes – and, in the meantime, if you want to shout about an amazing Sanctuary Students team member, please email: HERO@sanctuary-students.com.
