The University of Salford is just 1 mile from Manchester city centre and close to Salford Shopping Centre. It’s a fantastic position surrounded by parks with easy access to the city.

The University of Salford began as The Royal Technical Institute founded in 1986 and became a university in 1967. It’s a large university with over 21,500 students, of which 17,000 or so are undergraduates and just over 4,000 are postgraduates.

The university is known for four distinct schools: the School of Arts and Media, the School of Science, Engineering and the Environment, the School of Health and Society and Salford Business School. Each has a solid reputation for delivering high-quality learning.

The United National Institute for Prosthetics and Orthotics Development is also located within the University of Salford.

The university has around 10,000 students, both undergraduate and graduate. The University of Bradford attracts a higher proportion of mature students than normal, around 30% of the student population. A further 22% of students here are international.

The university is known for engineering, computing, informatics, media, design and technology, health studies, management, law and international studies.

The University of Bradford is ranked 106th in the UK but #1 in the country for improving student’s life chances. It is also ranked in the top 50 for research, specifically technology research.

The University of Salford is just a mile outside Manchester city centre, so has all the advantages of that proximity.

Our University of Salford student accommodation is located on Frederick Road, which is just a few minutes from the main campus. It’s also close to Salford Quays, MediaCityUK, Old Trafford and other amenities.

Local highlights include Ordsall Hall, Salford Quays, MediaCityUK, The Lowry, Salford Museum & Art Gallery, IWM North, Salford Lads’ Club, Manchester United, Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Chapel Street, St Philip’s Church, Barton Swing Aqueduct, Peel Park, Salford Cathedral and Lowry Outlet.

Some of these are within the city and easy to get to. Some will require transport to access.

Salford is relatively safe for students. The town itself is friendly and inclusive. Manchester is also welcoming and a nice place to live. There is crime here and there are places you don’t want to go alone.

However, take the same precautions you would take anywhere else and your time here should be trouble-free.

All our University of Salford student accommodation is fully furnished and equipped, so all you need to bring is bedding, towels and anything you want to bring to make life more comfortable.

If you bring your own TV, you’ll need a TV licence. You can bring anything else you like within reason, but we recommend not bringing furniture as your room is already fully furnished.
