About the Manchester Metropolitan University

Manchester Metropolitan University is a relatively new university. The original Manchester Mechanics Institute and the Manchester School of Design were founded back in 1824 but became a university in 1970.

There are around 33,500 students with around 27,000 undergraduates and 6,500 postgraduates. It’s a large university split across two campuses, All Saints Campus and Birley Campus. Both are just south of the city centre outside the A57.

There are five main faculties: arts & humanities, business & law, education, health, psychology & social care and science & engineering.

Manchester Metropolitan University is ranked 15th in the country for the quality of teaching. It is predominantly known for research into advanced materials, surface engineering, biosciences, applied computation, creative subjects, environmental subjects, education and economics.

What bills or extras will I need to pay?

You won’t need to pay any bills or any extras! All rents are fully inclusive. That means no bills, no paying for internet, electricity, water, heating or anything else. The price you see is the price you pay.

You’ll have to pay for a TV licence if you bring your own TV. You won’t need it for watching Netflix or other IPTV channels, only if you plan on watching live TV.

How do I book my Manchester Metropolitan University student accommodation?

Booking your Manchester Metropolitan University student accommodation is easy. Select the building and the room type you want, select the big red ‘Book now’ button and fill in the form. You’ll need to pay £1 to secure the room, but nothing else until your place is confirmed.

We recommend booking early as Manchester is an incredibly popular city for students, and we get booked very quickly!

Can I live with friends in my student housing?

As long as you tell us who your friends are and you all apply at the same time, we will do our very best to ensure you live with friends. Book early enough, mention each other in your applications and our team will try to put you all together.

No promises, though, as our student housing is very popular!

Take the usual precautions, don’t venture places you don’t know after dark and you’ll be fine.

How do I pay rent for my student housing in Manchester?

Everything to do with your student housing is controlled from your Sanctuary Students account. Pay rent, request repairs and more, all from your account.

We accept bank transfer, credit card, debit card and a number of electronic payment systems.

What will I need to bring with me?

All Sanctuary Student’s accommodation is fully furnished and equipped, so all you’ll need to bring is bedding, towels, clothes and personal items. No need to bring any furniture, ironing board or anything like that, as we have them here.

Feel free to bring any small items (within reason) to make your room feel more comfortable!

Transport in Manchester

Manchester is a large city in the north and is a transport hub. Our Manchester Metropolitan University student accommodation is accessible from all these transport links.

Manchester Airport is the country’s third busiest airport and serves many international destinations. It has road and rail links into the city.

Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria stations are connected to national rail and run services locally and nationally.

Metrolink run trams throughout the city, which is an extra form of reliable public transport within the city centre. There are currently eight lines with 99 stops, with more planned for the future.

Manchester also has plenty of buses running throughout the city and surrounding areas. Some services run 24/7 while the majority of suburban routes run more sociable hours.

Manchester also has good road links including the M60, M602, M67, A57 and local roads throughout Greater Manchester and beyond. The city centre gets busy at peak times, but is otherwise easy to navigate by car.
