The University of Liverpool is one of the original universities in England, founded back in 1881. It’s a mix of old and new, with 10 Nobel prize winners as former students.

It is also ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world and has forged a reputation built on solid teaching, excellent research and master’s programs. As universities go, the University of Liverpool is an excellent choice for many subjects.

It’s a large university with almost 30,000 students studying 230 degree courses across more than a hundred subjects. The university has a solid reputation in several of those including chemistry, computer science, engineering, archaeology, agriculture, veterinary and food science, architecture, clinical medicine and English.

Liverpool is a big city but not too big. Most central areas are walkable and there are buses and taxis for everywhere else.

The wider city has six UNESCO World Heritage sites across the waterfront and the city centre is full of shopping, dining, entertainment, galleries, museums and things to see and do.

Liverpool Chinatown is one of the largest and oldest in Europe and offers amazing food and shopping. Canning, Albert Dock and Pier Head all offer more dining options, nightlight, culture and entertainment.

There are also parks and outside spaces to relax or hang out with friends when you’re not studying. Parks such as Otterspool Park, Sefton Park and Calderstones Park are all local favourites.

Liverpool has four universities in total, plus some colleges. Those four are Liverpool John Moores University, University of Liverpool, Liverpool Hope University and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Each has a different specialisation and offers high-quality teaching for undergraduates and graduates.

University of Liverpool is ranked in the top 200 of universities worldwide, which is the top 1%. The computer sciences and chemistry faculties are ranked the top in the country. Not only is the university prestigious, it also has a rich history and global reach which is why it’s so sought-after!

University of Liverpool is no harder to get into than other universities and easier than the ‘elite’ universities. It has an offer rate of over 77% so if you get the grades and apply, you stand a decent chance of being offered a place.

Liverpool has come a long way over the years and is now regarded as no more dangerous than any other large city. There is crime here, but no more so than other places. As long as you take precautions and don’t stray too far into estates or higher crime areas, you’ll be just fine.

There are literally hundreds of places to visit in the city, many of which you can visit for free. Highlights include the Museum of Liverpool, Tate Liverpool, Bluecoat, Chinatown, Roxy Ball Rooms, Sefton Park, Albert Dock and the Liverpool Waterfront are just a few. Then there’s nightlife, entertainment, shopping and open spaces.
