Birkbeck University of London

Birkbeck University of London is located in Bloomsbury and was originally established back in 1823. It’s a well-respected university that tends to rank well and is known for its Birkbeck Institute for the humanities, science, research, history, psychology, computer science and physics.

City, University of London

City, University of London is located in the heart of the capital and was originally founded in 1894 as the Northampton Institute. The modern university is known for the City Law School, the School of Community & Health Sciences and related fields.

Imperial College London

Imperial College London was created by Prince Albert and merged the Royal College of Science, Royal School of Mines and City and Guilds College into one. The current college has a narrow focus on science, technology, medicine and business and is highly regarded across the world for those subjects.

King's College London

King's College London is a long-established university with links to St Thomas’s Hospital in the centre of the city. It has five campuses: Strand, Guy’s, Waterloo, St Thomas’s and Denmark Hill. It is known for dentistry, oral and craniofacial sciences, life sciences, medicine, psychiatry and related fields.

London Metropolitan University

London Metropolitan University, or London Met as it’s known, is a centrally located university with a great reputation. It includes the Guildhall School of Business and Law, School of Computing and Digital Media, School of Human Sciences, School of Social Professions, School of Social Sciences and the School of Art, Architecture and Design.

London School of Economics (LSE)

The London School of Economics is one of the most popular universities in London where all courses are massively oversubscribed. The university is well known for anthropology, criminology, social psychology, sociology and social policy, international relations and business-related courses.

Queen Mary University

Queen Mary University (QMUL) is an ancient establishment founded in 1785. It is based in east and central London with campuses across that area. The university is known for research, medicine, languages, English literature, dentistry, drama and materials technology.

School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)

The School of Oriental and African Studies is based in Bloomsbury, London, and is a world-leading institution for the study of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The university is known for teaching Asian, African and Middle Eastern languages, Arabic & Islamic Studies, Oriental Studies, law and social sciences.

University College London (UCL)

University College London is the second largest university in the UK after the Open University. It was also Britain’s first secular university. It is known mainly for medicine, geography, education and training, anatomy and physiology, architecture, archaeology, psychology and pharmacology.

University of the Arts London (UAL)

The University of the Arts London is made up of several colleges in London and only became a university in 2003. It includes the Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Arts.

About Shoreditch

Shoreditch is in the East End of London and is part of Hackney. It's a cool part of town that has seen a lot of investment and regeneration and is now a great place to live.

With Commercial Street running through the centre, the City being close by and colleges and universities all around, it’s an eclectic mix of people covering all types, cultures, languages and personalities.

There’s a lot going on in Shoreditch. It’s full of shopping, eating, pubs, bars, museums, Access Creative College, New City College, Mulberry Academy, City of London Academy, Broadgate Tower and local parks and attractions.

Spitalfields Market, Brick Lane Market, London Liverpool Street Market, the Royal London Hospital and other local landmarks are within a short walk or bus ride from our Shoreditch student accommodation.

Transport in Shoreditch

Shoreditch is a lively area with a lot going on. While we’re a tube or train ride from City Airport, Heathrow or Gatwick, we’re definitely not short of rail links.

Shoreditch is close to Liverpool Street Station, and Old Street Station and Shoreditch High Street tube keeps us connected, as does Moorgate and Aldgate tube.


 The A10 and A501 go through Shoreditch, so if you’re driving, those provide a simple way to get around, although driving this close to the centre of London isn’t the easiest.

Buses run regularly with some routes running 24 hours a day while others are daytime only. They run every few minutes and provide a cheap, reliable way to get to and from your Shoreditch student accommodation.

Student life in Shoreditch

Shoreditch may not have the reputation of places like Islington or Bloomsbury but it’s a nice place to be a student. There is a real mix of cultures, people, architecture, entertainment and everything that makes life worth living.

Like many areas of London, it’s a melting pot of cultures that provide a superb opportunity to learn, explore and to grow.

Shoreditch is also great for shopping, dining, entertainment and has a few parks to enjoy the summer sun.

It is close to Queen Mary University of London, the London School of Economics, City University of London, CASS Business School and University of Law, London College of Fashion, Newcastle University London and local schools and colleges.

Plentiful transport links mean it's no problem if you study further afield, either, as most universities are just a tube ride away from our student housing in Shoreditch.

Local highlights include Shoreditch High Street, Dennis Severs' House, Rich Mix, Close-Up Cinema, Brick Lane, the Truman Brewery, Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, Spitalfields Market, Wentworth Street Market, London Fight Factory, Liverpool Street Station, Whitechapel Gallery, the Royal London Hospital, David Game College, Guildhall, London Mithraeum, Monument to the Great Fire of London, Tower of London, Wilton's Music Hall, Jack The Ripper Museum, Bank of England and St. Paul's Cathedral.

Jump on the tube or bus and the rest of the city opens up, with hundreds of shopping areas, markets, pubs, bars, cafés, restaurants, galleries, museums, clubs and things to see and do.
